bb thrift

When I first started regularly attending estate sales, I was on a break from working so was able to go to the Friday morning sales. I wasn’t bringing home a ton of items, but it was enough to make me wonder what the heck I was going to do with my treasures, if I wasn’t putting them to good use or displaying them. I’ve now realized that for me, the thrill is mostly in the hunt, not the acquisition.

This was the main impetus for creating Dagmar Vintage. My good friend Allyson and I were chatting one day about wanting to work for ourselves, and commenting on our love of thrifting. I also had recently visited Memory Den in Portland and thought maybe it might be fun to experiment with reselling. I ran the idea by Allyson and that was that.

Unfortunately, co-running a small vintage booth doesn’t pay the bills so I had to take on a job. I dipped my toe into part-time work, but it just wasn’t enough.

So now I’m working full-time, which really cuts into my ability to thrift whenever I want! But I still try and find the time. Mostly on my lunch break :)

There are a few good thrifting spots close by. And then of course there’s a Goodwill. This particular Goodwill sucks, quite frankly, but when I need to scratch the itch on a Tuesday, it’s my only option. The good thrift stores are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

So today I popped over to the Goodwill and, as always, was appalled at their pricing. I really don’t know how the pricing works, it seems like each location is run differently. Because while this one bums me out every time I go, there’s another one closer to my house that’s an absolute thrill to visit.

ANYWAY, today’s trip was as disappointing as ever, but I did walk away with three things for less than $10. I got lucky and each item I grabbed was tagged with the color of the week, so I got half off. I probably would have gotten these items regardless, but I deserve a discount since I hate this particular Goodwill. I will say, the staff are lovely. But the prices and the available items are awful. I swear the shelves are bare everytime I go. I don’t get it!!!

Here are some quick car pictures of what I grabbed. I’ll clean them up and pop them into the booth on Thursday.

I ended up spending $8.47 total for all three so at least there’s that! Tomorrow I might hit up some other spots, depending on how I’m feeling on my lunch break. I’m looking forward to doing more research on these pieces an getting them all cleaned up for display!
